"Singer-songwriters are strange creatures," declares Daniel Hoover, a Jackson- based singer-songwriter known to pack more storytelling and from-the-heart lyrics into a single song than some do in their entire careers. "I believe that most have a disease that makes them think absurdly too much," he added, half-joking. "The stage however, becomes an outlet for songwriters to share what drives them, what feeds them, what eats at them, what lifts them, what pains them and what makes them smile." On Friday, Hoover and his buddies (and fellow singer- songwriters) Brandon John Foote and Doug Mains will share the stage at Scene Metrospace, for an Earthwork Music Collective show.
Hoover came out with his first full-length CD, "A Feeble Attempt," last April. He recorded it in about six hours, and it was all taped live. "The hope about recording live is to be raw and sound exactly how you would if the listener was on your couch next to you," he said. "It's fun but scary to put yourself out there." Hoover says "heart, passion and honesty" will define Friday's show, in true folk fashion. "None of us have huge bands or sing many popular covers, but we are all passionate about what we are saying and love performing for people," he said. The Earthwork Music Collective believes in the intrinsic and historical power of music to raise both community and self-awareness and serves to facilitate and encourage original music in the state of Michigan and beyond.
